"consult with them in that regard" use

"consult with them in that regard" use

I'm writing a dialogue between two people and at some point one of them
says: "Very well. We shall agree not to consult with them in that regard".
Is this proper British English? Something doesn't sound right but not
being a native speaker I don't know what it is.
